Los Angeles, CA August 30th, 2006 -- Internationally acclaimed painter and poet Mavhash Mossaed is pleased to announce that her debut film, Unveiling, I Paint a Woman's Life in My Culture, will premiere as part of this Summer's New York International Independent Film & Video Festival (NYIIFVF). The 60-minute biography/drama was produced by Dennis Roberts, an award-winning film producer, and was written and directed by Mahvash Mossaed herself. "Unveiling, I Paint a Woman's Life in My Culture " screens on Saturday, September 16 at 4:00 p.m. at Laemmle Fairfax Theatres, 7907 Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles (Screen 3).
Unveiling, I Paint a Woman's Life in My Culture, is the bio documentary of an Iranian American painter and poet's journey of self-growth and self-discovery. Throughout this artfully choreographed collage of surrealistic paintings, evocative poetry, and haunting still-photography, Mahvash delivers a candid account of her life and her experiences.
Based on a lifetime of her collected autobiographical paintings and poetry, this film is about change, facing fears and breaking through limitations, taboos, and cultural superstitions. Mahvash's emergence from the crucible of womanhood inspires Eastern and Western women alike to access their inner-strength.
Stuart Alson commented “We are honored that Unveiling, I Paint a Woman’s Life in My Culture” is an official selection at this year’s festival. Mahvash’s film is evocative, expertly crafted and contains powerful visual imagery. She is a very gifted artist who found a unique and effective way to tell her story and communicate her message to Iranian and Middle-Eastern women all over the world. It has been nominated in several categories including Best Directorial Debut. ”
